A flight before files is a poor first filter. Traders book meeting rooms. Factories send files. If you sell into retail or a regulated import lane, the PDF pack is what gets you onboarded, not lunch. If the question is China versus a US plant rather than factory versus trader, use China vs USA pet supplement manufacturer.

Generic "how to verify a Chinese manufacturer" guides tell you to read 经营范围 on gsxt.gov.cn. That is necessary. It is not sufficient for pet supplements. You also need GMP evidence, a pet-food SQF scope, an invoice name that matches the cert, and a sample COA from the format you will buy.

Factory vs trader, in one field

Ask for the business licence. Extract the 18-digit Unified Social Credit Code. Ours is 91321283MA1MR5HB8P. Search it on GSXT. Status should be active (在营 / 开业).

Read 经营范围. Production language (生产, 制造, 加工, 饲料生产) belongs on a manufacturer. 销售, 批发, 贸易 alone is a trading company, even if the Alibaba banner says "factory".

Then apply a consistency check used by professional sourcing desks: legal entity, export documents, and the line you are shown should name the same company. A GMP PDF issued to Factory A attached to a quote from Trading Co. B is not your supplier's certificate.

Our manufacturing legal name is Shenzhen Enbeichong Co., Ltd. (深圳恩贝宠), Shenzhen, Guangdong. If WeChat name, website name and invoice name disagree, stop.

GSXT in practice: open the licence PDF, copy the 18-digit code, search it, compare legal representative and address to the quote. You do not need to read every Chinese footnote. You need the name, the status, and whether the scope includes production. A credit-report vendor can pull more; the government site is enough to catch a trader wearing a factory badge.

Five files, not screenshots

1. GMP PDF with identifier and validity. Ours: Eurofins, ACCB8AAA422_1, through 14 June 2027. Directory: listings.ai.eurofins.com.
2. SQF pet-food manufacturing PDF, GFSI scheme, site and scope that match the line. Ours: SIN 105690. Verify at directory.sqfi.com.
3. Legal name that will appear on the commercial invoice. Same as the certificates.
4. FDA facility registration if the US is in the plan: 10222600768. D-U-N-S 404129816 is the unique facility identifier procurement already uses. The FFR number is not a public FOIA search; match the PDF to the legal name.
5. Sample COA plus a written sampling lead time. We quote 7–15 days for stock formulas.

How to interpret GMP vs SQF is the certification article. This page is only: did they send the files, and do the names match.

Jiangsu feed licence 苏饲预（2026）12006 (26 April 2026 – 25 April 2031) is the domestic production permission. Ask for it if your quality team cares about Chinese manufacturing legality, not only export stickers.

What video is for

A 20-second corridor clip proves nothing. You want gowning, a line, and packing that match the address on the certificate. We put a walk-through and shop-floor clips on the homepage. Watch those before you request a live tour. If you still visit, ask which day the line you care about is running.

Video after files. Files after a complete brief. A tour before a COA is how traders sell lunch.

On a live video, ask them to pan from the gate sign to the line, and to show the batch sheet or the packing station for the format you want. A branded conference room whose signage does not match the address on the PDF is a consistency fail.

How to read the sample once it arrives

The document check gets you to a sample. The sample is the second filter.

• Palatability: two days, not one treat in a meeting.
• Appearance vs the photo they sent. Lighting lies.
• Pack integrity after a week.
• COA layout vs the sample bag: batch code should be the kind of code you will see on a production lot, not a marketing sticker.

If two factories both pass files, compare samples on the same brief. Do not compare a custom ODM prototype from plant A with a stock chew from plant B and call it a price contest.

Questions that belong on a call, not in a slogan

Who is on the commercial invoice. Which site will run the SKU. What the MOQ unit is (unit vs bottle). What Incoterm they will print. How long samples take for this format. Whether the formula is stock or ODM. None of those are answered by "GMP factory, low MOQ, one-stop service."

Red flags that waste a quarter

MOQ described only as "negotiable" with no format and no unit vs bottle. Certificates issued to another city. No map address. Sample "in three days" with no formula selected. Tooling deposit before a COA. A firm unit price after "joint chew, private label" with no pack and no Incoterm.

None of that always means fraud. It means you cannot put them in front of quality yet.

After the files: one sample, then a quote

Do not spray five factories with "joint chew, private label." Send the same short brief to two plants that passed the file check: species, benefit, format, market, volume. Compare sample, COA layout, and whether the quote names Incoterm and MOQ.
