Dental chews are easy to photograph and easy to oversell. Owners buy a brush, use it twice, and stop. The powder that goes on the meal is the SKU that still gets used in month three. That is the commercial case. It is not a licence to print "removes tartar" as if the jar were a scaler.

I write this from Shenzhen Enbeichong. We already run pet dental cleaning powder as a mix-in for dogs and cats. This page is the brief, the iodine ceiling, and the claims we will not put on a US or EU pack.

Why a powder, not another dental chew

A dental chew adds calories. Small dogs feel it. Fast eaters choke on it. Cats barely use the category. A powder has no extra calories worth arguing about and one SKU can cover both species if the feeding table is honest.

The owner action is "stir into food". If your brand already sells a chew, a water additive or a finger brush, the powder fills the gap for people who will not chew or brush. It does not replace a veterinary dental. Say that on the site, not only in a footnote.

Iodine, scoop and two species

Seaweed-based dental powders are limited by iodine, not by the marketing idea. The EU sets maximum iodine in feed for dogs and cats. The cat ceiling is the lower of the two. You cannot copy the dog scoop onto a cat panel and ship it. Calculate the cat dose separately. FEDIAF nutritional guidelines are the European industry reference: europeanpetfood.org.

Daily servings are fractions of a gram. Scoop design is a real accuracy problem. A "heaped teaspoon" on a 100 g jar is how you get a complaint and an iodine math problem in the same week. We spec a scoop and a table. You print both.

If Europe is not in the destination list, still tell us. The same jar often ends up in a second market six months later.

Claims that survive a listing review

Keep copy on oral hygiene support, fresher breath, and a daily habit. Breath is what the owner notices. That is why the repeat purchase exists.

Do not print "removes tartar", "reverses periodontal disease", "replaces a dental cleaning". Mechanical outcomes and disease treatment are how listings die and how FDA CVM reads a carton as a drug. The public starting point is still FDA animal food. AAFCO model pet-food labelling covers guaranteed analysis and feeding directions many US states expect: aafco.org.

"Vet formulated" needs a document. "Clinically proven" needs a study on this formula, not a seaweed brochure.

How this SKU is quoted

Dental powder is quoted in jars, not in chew counts. Do not mix that number with the 500-unit chew MOQ on other pages. The quotation prints the jar MOQ for this SKU. Samples for a catalogue powder typically take 7 to 15 days. A first branded jar with artwork still sits inside the usual 8 to 14 week first-project window if claims stay boring.

A chew-only dental brief is a different factory conversation. If you want both, say so. Two SKUs, two feeding tables, one oral-care shelf.

Put species (dog, cat, or both), destination market and whether the jar is a stand-alone or a companion to a chew on the inquiry form. If you only needed the iodine warning, you already have it.

Preguntas frecuentes

Is dental powder better than a dental chew for private label?
For cats, almost always. For small dogs, it avoids extra calories and choking. A chew still photographs better. Many brands sell both on one oral-care shelf.
Can the label say it removes tartar?
We will not print mechanical tartar removal or periodontal treatment. Oral hygiene support and fresher breath. Disease and scaler language is how listings and FDA CVM both fail you.
Is the MOQ the same as a chew?
No. Powder is quoted in jars. Do not mix that figure with the 500-unit chew MOQ. The quotation prints the jar count for this SKU.
Why does a seaweed dental powder need a separate cat dose?
Seaweed-based dental powders are limited by iodine, not by the marketing idea. The EU sets maximum iodine in feed for dogs and cats, and the cat ceiling is the lower of the two. You cannot copy the dog scoop onto a cat panel and ship it. Calculate the cat dose separately.
Does the scoop matter on a dental powder?
Yes. Daily servings are fractions of a gram, so scoop design is a real accuracy problem. A heaped teaspoon on a 100 g jar is how you get a complaint and an iodine math problem in the same week. We spec a scoop and a feeding table; you print both.
Does a dental powder replace a veterinary dental cleaning?
No. The owner action is stir into food, and the copy stays on oral hygiene support, fresher breath and a daily habit. Say on the site, not only in a footnote, that it does not replace a veterinary dental. Vet formulated needs a document and clinically proven needs a study on this formula.
