Most brands delay a first production run because they assume Chinese OEM means 3,000 bottles and a six-month project. For stock soft chews on our line, the floor is 500 units. That is a market test, not a warehouse bet.

What 500 units actually buys you
You are not buying an exclusive formula. You are buying a production slot, your artwork on a proven recipe, and the paperwork a distributor will ask for.
- One stock formula from the current catalogue (dogs or cats; soft chew, powder, tablet, paste, oil or drops)
- Your brand name, logo and label layout on the agreed pack
- Samples in 7–15 days so you can check palatability and appearance before you lock the run
- A written quotation: unit price, MOQ, Incoterm, production window
- Batch COA plus the export pack after production (typically 25–35 days from sample approval)
Reference prices on the catalogue start around US$1.62 per unit. The number on your quotation will move with pack type, testing, volume and Incoterm. Treat catalogue prices as a planning range, not an invoice.
What a 500-unit run does not include
Say this out loud before you brief us, because it saves a week of email.
Exclusive ownership of a formula is ODM, not private label. If you need a recipe developed against your brief, or territory exclusivity, that is a different commercial agreement and a longer sampling loop. The OEM guide covers that path.
A first run also will not invent a new dosage form. If the catalogue SKU is a soft chew, the 500-unit floor applies to that chew on our extrusion line (about one tonne per hour). Other formats still start at 500 units, but the confirmed MOQ is the one written in the quote.
How a first order actually moves
- You send species, benefit, format, target market and a volume range. If you skip the market, we cannot flag labelling rules.
- We map you to a stock formula or tell you it has to be ODM.
- Samples ship. You approve or you change flavour / size once.
- Artwork is checked against the destination-market rules you named.
- We run the batch under GMP, issue the COA, and ship on the Incoterm in the quote.
A clean first project still lands in 8–14 weeks. The time you lose is almost always artwork and claims, not the mixer.
