Buyer FAQ

Pet Supplement Manufacturing FAQ

The questions procurement teams and brand owners actually ask before a first order — minimum quantities, sampling, lead times, certification, documents and freight. Answered by the people who run the production line.

Quick answer

Beno manufactures pet supplements for brands on a 500-unit minimum order across six dosage forms. Samples ship in 7–15 days, a production run takes 25–35 days after sample approval, and a first OEM project runs 8–14 weeks end to end. The factory holds Eurofins GMP audit recognition and SQF Pet Food Manufacturing certification.

Ordering & MOQ

Minimum order quantity, pricing and how an order starts

How small a first order can be, how the unit price is built, and what happens between an inquiry and a confirmed production slot.

What is the minimum order quantity?

500 units per SKU for soft chews, against a Chinese industry average of around 3,000. Other dosage forms also start at 500 units, but the confirmed figure depends on the formula, the packaging configuration and whether the run uses a stock or a custom formula. The exact MOQ for your project is written into the quotation.

Why is your MOQ lower than most Chinese factories?

Our soft chew line runs at one tonne per hour, so a short run does not carry the setup cost penalty that slower equipment does. Keeping 500 units viable is a deliberate decision to support new brand launches, market tests and seasonal SKUs — not a promotion that expires.

Can I combine several products to reach the minimum?

The minimum applies per SKU, because each formula needs its own batch, cleaning cycle and packaging changeover. You can order several SKUs in one shipment and consolidate the freight, but each one has to meet its own minimum. Send a shortlist and we will show you what the combined order looks like.

How is the price per unit calculated?

Catalogue prices are USD reference figures for comparison, starting at US$1.62 per unit and excluding packaging. A firm price is issued once the formula, active levels, packaging specification, order volume, testing scope and Incoterm are fixed. Higher volume and simpler packaging bring the number down; premium actives and multi-component packaging push it up.

What are your payment terms?

Terms are agreed per project and written into the proforma invoice before production is scheduled. Most first orders run on a deposit plus the balance against shipping documents by bank transfer. If your finance team needs something different, raise it during quotation rather than after the order is confirmed.

Samples & lead times

Sampling, trial runs and how long a project really takes

Realistic timelines for every stage, and the things that actually move a delivery date.

Can I get a sample before placing an order?

Yes, and we recommend it. Samples of a stock formula ship in 7–15 days. A custom formula takes longer, because raw material sourcing alone runs about seven days before anything can be made. You evaluate appearance, palatability, texture and specification, and we iterate until you approve.

Are samples free?

It depends on how much custom work is involved. A small quantity of an existing stock formula is inexpensive and often only costs the courier charge. A newly developed formula is quoted, because it consumes R&D time and raw material minimums. Whether the fee is credited against your first production order is confirmed in writing before we make anything.

How long does production take after I approve the sample?

25–35 days for the production run itself, counted from sample approval and signed-off artwork. Peak season, imported raw materials and multi-component packaging can extend that, which is why the quotation states a date rather than a generic range.

How long does a complete first project take?

8–14 weeks for a first OEM or ODM project: brief and feasibility review, formula work and sampling, artwork and packaging sign-off, GMP production, then quality release and export documentation. Repeat orders skip most of that and come down to the production run plus shipping.

Do you run a trial batch before full production?

For ODM projects, yes. A small-batch trial on the actual production equipment validates process parameters and batch consistency while changes are still cheap to make. On a stock formula we already run regularly, the trial stage can usually be skipped.

Can you handle a rush order?

Sometimes — it depends on line availability and whether the raw materials are already in stock. Tell us the date you need goods to arrive rather than the date you want them to ship, and we will tell you honestly whether it is achievable.

Private label & OEM/ODM

Which commercial route fits your brand

The practical difference between the three routes, what you own at the end, and how much you can change.

What is the difference between private label, OEM and ODM?

Private label puts your brand on one of our proven stock formulas — the fastest and cheapest route to market. OEM means we manufacture to a specification you already own. ODM means our R&D team develops the formula with you, starting from a market position rather than a finished recipe. Most new brands begin with private label and move to ODM once the category is proven.

Can you manufacture from my own formula?

Yes, that is OEM. Send the formula sheet, target specification and any testing requirements, and we confirm feasibility, ingredient availability and cost before quoting. If part of the formula is not practical to produce at your target price, we say so at the feasibility stage rather than after sampling.

Will my formula stay confidential?

Yes. We sign an NDA before receiving proprietary formula documents, and a formula developed for one client is not offered to another. Ask for the NDA in your first email — it does not slow the quotation down.

How much can I customise?

Colour, shape, size, hardness, unit weight, serving size and net weight are all adjustable, and active ingredient levels can be raised or lowered on an ODM run. Chicken, beef and fish flavour directions are standard, and we run palatability testing to refine taste and aroma before you sign off.

What packaging can you supply?

Bottles, pouches, jars, stick packs, blisters, tubes, sachets, outer cartons and bundle sets. We assist with label, insert and outer box design, and adapt the pack for e-commerce, retail or cross-border channels. Bring artwork if you have it; if not, we can work from a logo and a colour scheme.

Do I get exclusivity on a formula?

Stock formulas from the catalogue are shared — other brands already sell them. For a formula developed against your brief, ownership and any category or territory exclusivity is agreed in writing before development starts. Raise it in the first brief, not after the sample is approved.

Manufacturing & formats

What the factory can actually produce

Equipment, capacity and the constraints that decide whether an idea is manufacturable.

Which dosage forms can you manufacture?

Six: soft chews, tablets, powders, pastes and gels, liquid drops and oils, and granules. The facility is licensed for solid, semi-solid and liquid pet additive premixed feed, using vacuum emulsification, tablet pressing, blending, sterilisation and drying processes.

What is your soft chew capacity?

The soft chew extrusion line runs at one tonne per hour — the fastest we are aware of in China — producing over 180 million units a month at consistent texture and flavour release. That throughput is exactly what makes a 500-unit minimum commercially viable.

Where is the factory, and who operates it?

Taizhou Beno Biotech Co., Ltd. (泰州市贝诺生物科技有限公司) in Taixing City, Jiangsu, China, established in August 2016, at Li Kong Group 3, Donglin Village, Yaowang Street, Taixing 225400. A second production facility is under construction in Guangzhou.

How many production lines do you run?

Three lines with 30 production staff on a single shift, 8:00–17:00, six days a week. Line allocation for your order is confirmed in the quotation, so the delivery date you receive is based on a real production slot rather than an average.

Where do the raw materials come from?

Materials are sourced against an approved specification, with a sourcing cycle of about seven days for standard ingredients. Imported or single-source actives take longer and are flagged during feasibility review. Incoming material acceptance, process control and finished product inspection records are kept for every batch.

What shelf life do the products have?

24 months from the production date for standard formulas. Controlled moisture and water activity in soft chews, and aseptic filling for oils and drops, are what protect that. Formulas built around sensitive actives such as live probiotics can carry a shorter shelf life, which is stated in the specification.

Quality & compliance

Certificates, testing and the documents customs asks for

What is certified, what is tested, and what we can put in front of your regulatory team.

Which certifications does the factory hold?

Eurofins GMP audit recognition (score 86%, valid to 14 June 2027), SQF Food Safety Code Edition 9 for Pet Food Manufacturing (score 88, certificate SIN 105690, valid to 28 August 2027), the SQF Quality Code, Chinese Feed Production Licence 苏饲预(2026)12006 (valid 26 April 2026 to 25 April 2031) and FDA Food Facility Registration 10222600768.

Can I see the original certificates?

Yes. Every certificate PDF is downloadable from the quality page, with no form to fill in. Full audit reports, the HACCP plan summary, allergen statement and country-of-origin documentation are available on request as a vendor qualification package.

What testing is done on my batch?

It depends on the formula, dosage form and destination market — we do not claim every project receives an identical test panel. The project-specific test and document package is agreed during quotation, and production runs with eight in-process quality checkpoints plus finished product testing and full batch records.

Do you provide a certificate of analysis?

Yes, a COA per batch, together with stability data and the regulatory dossier your destination market needs. Tell us the country and the format your importer expects — a US soft chew and an EU tablet do not take the same document set.

Can I audit the factory before ordering?

Yes, and we receive client and third-party audits regularly. Send your preferred dates and whether you are sending your own auditor or an agency. If travel is not practical, a remote video walkthrough of the relevant lines can be arranged instead.

Is the product registered for sale in my country?

In most markets registration is the importer's responsibility, but we supply the manufacturing-side evidence it depends on: certificates, COA, stability data, ingredient declarations and country-of-origin records. Tell us the destination during quotation so the document set is built correctly the first time.

Shipping & export

Incoterms, transit times and who is responsible for what

How goods get from Taixing to your warehouse, and which paperwork travels with them.

Which Incoterms do you work with?

FOB, CIF and DDP. FOB gives you control of the freight and usually the lowest invoice figure; DDP is the simplest option if you do not have a forwarder. State your preference in the inquiry, because it changes the quoted number substantially.

How do you ship, and how long does it take?

Sea freight for volume orders, air freight for samples and urgent top-ups, express courier for artwork proofs and small quantities. Port-to-port sea transit runs roughly 18–25 days to the US west coast and 30–40 days to northern Europe depending on routing and season, before customs clearance at your end. Air freight is typically 5–8 days.

Which export documents do you prepare?

Commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading or air waybill and certificate of origin, plus the product documentation: COA, ingredient and nutritional declarations, and health or free-sale certificates where the destination requires them. Missing paperwork is the most common reason a shipment sits at a border, so the list is confirmed before goods leave.

Can you ship to an Amazon FBA warehouse or a 3PL?

Yes. Send the FBA labelling requirements, carton and pallet specification and the destination warehouse, and we apply them at packing. Getting prep right at the factory is far cheaper than fixing it after arrival.

Who is responsible if a shipment is damaged or delayed?

It follows the Incoterm in the contract — that is what Incoterms exist for. On FOB, risk transfers when the goods are loaded; on DDP, we carry it to your door. Insurance arrangements are confirmed in the proforma invoice, not assumed.

Do you ship samples internationally?

Yes, by express courier, typically 3–7 days depending on destination and customs. Provide a complete delivery address, a contact phone number and importer details — sample shipments held at customs are almost always missing consignee information.
