Beruhigungs-Kausnacks: Theanin, Melatonin-Märkte, Claims die Listings killen

Calming chews spike around fireworks, storms, travel and the first week back at work. Feelshine wrote about L-theanine and about why the category is growing. The demand is obvious. The regulatory trap is also obvious: "treats anxiety" and "sedates" read as drug claims in more than one market.

Beno's stock SKU is calming chews. Some briefs also want hemp seed oil drops. Hemp seed oil is not CBD. If you need cannabinoids, that is a different legal file and we will not pretend otherwise on a carton.

Ingredients people ask for, and what changes by country

L-theanine is the workhorse on a lot of US and EU briefs. It is an amino acid story, not a prescription.

Tryptophan shows up next. Dose and flavour both matter. Too much and the piece tastes like a vitamin bottle.

Chamomile, passionflower, valerian. Botanicals. Valerian works in some formulas and smells like a problem in a closed pouch. Say if your customer will reject the odour.

Melatonin is common in United States calming formulas and is not an authorised feed additive in the EU the way US brands use it. If you sell both markets, plan two formulas or drop melatonin. Do not discover this at customs.

We keep claim language on relaxation, travel comfort and routine. We will not print "anti-anxiety medication" or "cures separation disorder." FDA CVM's line on animal products that claim to treat disease is the same as for joint SKUs: that is drug territory. Start at FDA animal food.

Channel and pack

This category is event-driven. Brands pre-build for July fireworks and New Year in the US, and for holiday travel. A small trial count at checkout is a real tactic. That is a pack size decision (pouch vs tub), not a new recipe.

Stock calming chews on our list use a 3000-unit MOQ on that SKU's commercial terms, not the 500-unit floor of the white-bottle in-stock chews. Read the quotation. Mixing "all chews are 500" with this SKU is how people argue with an invoice.

Samples still follow the stock window when the formula is on the line. Custom botanicals or a melatonin-free EU version is a spec change. Treat it as such in the brief.

What a first listing should say

Write feeding directions for bodyweight. Write "not a substitute for veterinary care." Write the time-of-day if the formula is melatonin-based and the market allows it. Do not write guaranteed behaviour outcomes. Dogs are not widgets.

If you also want a daily multi or a joint chew in the same brand, those are separate SKUs. A "calm + joint + gut" super-chew is how actives and flavour both lose.
